    Description

Artwork for sale appears to be a colorful photo reproduction of an oil painting that depicts a surreal landscape. At the lower right, the artwork is signed "Henry Miller - 4/52 (April 1952) in the plate (photo 2).  It is quite rare but likely a large bookplate image. Underneath the artwork is a small 1 and 1/2" x 3" card with the author/artist's written signature ( photo 12). The abstract image and the signed card are tastefully matted and under glass in a silver frame. The entire piece measures 22" x 18". . This piece was purchased from a Burchard Gallery auction on June 23, 2014. It was lot 1488. Auction house invoice states that is was from the William Crawford Plumley Estate. Miller was one of those rare individuals who excelled in both literature and art. Auction house sticker is still adhered to the back (photo 7) and auction house invoice (photo 5) will be included for provenance.Seller cannot authenticate if the signature is actually that of Henry Miller but it appears to be a genuine ink signature and not a facsimile. It has been compared to other known examples of the writer's signature and it is quite comparable.
