    (b. 1937) and his younger brother,
    DICK SMOTHERS
    (b. 1939), first appeared professionally at the Purple Onion in San Francisco in 1959, and they made their first national television appearance on
    The Jack Paar Show
    in 1961.
    The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour
    was televised on CBS from 1967 until, after numerous censorship battles, they were cancelled in 1969.
    They revived the show in 1988,
    and the new version of
    The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour
    ran until 1989.
    Tom and Dick have appeared, both together and separately, in
    feature films and made-for-TV movies. They also made guest starring appearances on several TV series
    . The Smothers Brothers, who
    currently hold the
    record for longevity for a comedy duo
    , continued to tour across the nation until 2010, when they announced their retirement.
