Description
This is a signed vintage black and white photo of American actress Luella Gear (1897-1980). It measures 5 &1/4" wide x 9" tall and is signed, "Sincerely Yours Luella Gear."Ms. Gear made her acting debut in 1917 in a Broadway musical, "Love O' Mike", and subsequently appeared in numerous Broadway productions, films, and television series. Her last appearance was on the television show, "The Defenders", in 1964.
This photo is dated on the reverse, in the lower-right-hand-corner, where there is a printed notation in an unknown hand, "Given Majestic Thursday January 7th 1937." Below the word, "Majestic" is the name of another popular Detroit, Michigan theater in that era, the "Imperial."
The area in the black bottom border, at the lower-left-hand of the photo paper, had a tear and was repaired long ago with a piece of tape. The tear corresponds with the the handwriting described above, in the lower-right-hand-corner on the reverse.
There is a photo credit imprinted in the image area, in the lower-right corner, that reads,
"Repro. By
S. Georges
25. Villa Road
London, S.W.9"
This is a beautiful 1930's image, and would look wonderful when framed.
