    Description

Original vintage black-and-white photograph of legendary playwright and director MOSS HART.
Likely one-of-a-kind, the photograph shows Hart onboard the U.S.S. Shangri-La during World War II.  It is inscribed by Hart: "For Murray Who sings as well as he photos - and is a helluva guy besides. Moss Hart  Jan. 1945"
On rear of the photograph, it is captioned "Capt. Barner with Moss Hart, Playwright, at wheel on the bridge of the U.S.S. Shangri-La"  A stamp indicates it is not to be used for publication by order of the chief of the Bureau of Aeronautics.  Another stamp indicates it was taken January 22, 1945.
Very good condition. Matte finish.  8 x 10 inches.
Moss Hart's storied career included collaborating on hits with George S. Kaufman (Once in a Lifetime, You Can't Take It With You, George Washington Slept Here, The Man Who Came to Dinner), and writing librettos for numerous Broadway shows with songs by Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, Cole Porter. He also wrote the book for the musical Lady in the Dark, the classic musical with songs by Kurt Weill and Ira Gershwin. Hart was also a screenwriter (Gentleman's Agreement, A Star is Born, Hans Christian Andersen), and wrote the best-selling memoir Act One.  Hart went on to direct such classical musicals as My Fair Lady and Camelot.
