    Description

From the Estate of Clifton Webb
is this vintage original 6.25 x 9 in. US double-weight matte photograph depicting a posed image of the operatic soprano and musical theatre and motion picture star,
    GRACE MOORE
    , with her husband,
    VALENTIN PARERA
, a popular Spanish actor. The happy couple is depicted in an exterior setting at, presumably, their home, with Mr. Parera holding a rake and Miss Moore holding a large basket of fruits and vegetables.
    this photograph was
    inscribed
in black ink by Grace Moore to her good friend and fellow motion picture and stage actor, Clifton Webb. It is inscribed "To Baby Clifton - From his [unknown] babies who love him." Unfortunately the signature itself is affect by various areas of surface paper loss along the bottom border, but it appears that the first letter is a "G," so we assume it was written by Miss Moore herself and not by her husband. It was mounted to a piece of cardstock and features a photographer's studio stamp in the top left corner of the verso. It is in overall very good condition with random areas of paper loss on the edges of the actual photograph itself and some fading of the black ink.
Provenance: The Estate of Clifton Webb (purchased by our consignor from Bonhams and Butterfields in Los Angeles from a large collection of Mr. Webb's personal photographs).
Silent Cinema Inc. (the seller here) guarantees the authenticity of Grace Moore's inscription.
